To re-energise a property or for a new build, a safety certificate is required. Different states and distributors have different requirements.
For a new property or when the electricity has been off for a year, you need to have a Certificate of Electrical Safety.
Once the property has passed the inspection, and we’ve got the certificate, we’ll connect you with Momentum.
You’ll need to get the electrical work up to scratch, have the property reinspected, then email the certificate to us so we can connect you.
The process for reconnecting your electricity depends on your distributor. Find out who you distributor is here.

If your distributor in Queensland is Energex and your electricity has been off for 12 months, the energy rules require a visual safety inspection (VSI) before turning the power back on.
When you sign up, we’ll check to see if your property needs one. If it does, we’ll arrange for Energex to visit your site. Appointments are Monday to Friday from either 8am to 1pm or 1pm to 6pm. Energex will check your entire electrical installation for damage or exposed live parts.
Once your property has passed the VSI, Momentum can arrange to connect your electricity. Energex may charge you for the visual safety inspection. This may cost up to $360.
